About Émilie

Hello! I’m Émilie and I’m a wedding photographer and blogger.

I specialize in outdoor, adventurous and sunshine drenched weddings, elopements and couples in love and I also create educational content for fellow photographers/creative entrepreneurs via my blog and Youtube channel!

I started my adult life as a videographer at a big news station, but quickly realized I was craving more creativity and less drama in my life! So I rekindled my passion for photography and dove in head first.

Alex and I live in Ardrossan (a tiny hamlet outside of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada) and our favourite part of our home is the nature that surrounds it.

We get weekly visits from the local deer and moose and we’ll often fall asleep to the howling and yipping of coyotes.

We love road trips and camping. No location is ever too far…

We’ve been known to drive 10 hours for 2 nights of camping at an amazing spot, just to drive back less than 48 hours later. We’re no strangers to day trips to Jasper National Park and we’re always on the lookout for those off the beaten path wonders.

I am also an animal lover (I’m the one who stops to talk to the chipmunks and frogs on the trails) and adoptive mother of two cats (if you follow me on Instagram – more importantly, my Stories) you will find a slightly alarming percentage of those posts are about them…but what can I say? They’re just so darn fluffy!

P.S. My kitties are named Sammy and Luna. Luna, because she’s a little bonkers and sometimes I swear she can see the Nargles. Bonus points if you got the reference. I can already sense we’ll be friends.

How would you describe your brand in 3 words?

Natural, friendly and out of the ordinary

What is your favourite social media platform and why?

My favourite social media platform is definitely Instagram. I love the simplicity of it and how easy it is to connect with my followers. Instagram Stories allows me to connect on a deeper, more intimate level than any regular post or photo could. People reply to Stories, share their ideas, ask questions and even reply to simply say hi! This usually leads to more personal conversations and this kind of connection is so valuable to me.

Getting to know my followers in order to serve them better is so SO powerful!

What is your top tip for someone starting out on your favourite platform?

Consistency on Instagram is key. Not only for the algorithm but for your fans. People check their phones often, and if you’re always there with new content when they’re opening their app, they’ll get used to seeing you and start recognizing your brand.

Once that happens, you’ll create loyal and engaged followers.

How would your best friend describe you in two words?

My best friend is my partner, Alex.

He says I’m warm-hearted and resourceful.

I’ll stick with those.

What book do you recommend the most and why?

Oh boy… so many books!

It’s difficult to choose just one! However, the first one that comes to my mind is the 10X Rule by Grant Cardone.

That’s one of the last books I read in 2107 and it has changed the way I look at everything in my business and life.

I’ll be honest, what Grant talks about in this book might seem a little crazy to some people, so if that’s the case for you, I would still simply recommend you finish it and you’re sure to find at least one lesson you can pull from it!

I recommend this book because it will seriously make you think. At least it did for me, and since then, I’ve been planning out my days, weeks, months and quarters a lot differently!

What are you planning to do more of this year?

I am planning to create more content this year! Last year I was focused on building, but this year I am growing and expanding.

Last year, I finalized my website, my branding and figured out where I was headed.

Now that that’s figured out (for now at least haha), I’m focusing on creating more content for other photographers and creative entrepreneurs. I also want to focus on connecting with like-minded people.

I want to connect with other creatives in my community (as much online as in person).

I’ve realized in the past year how important it is to surround yourself with people that are encouraging and have the same kind of big goals! Being introverted, it’s out of my nature to get out there and start conversations with people, but once I force myself to do so, I love it!

So this year, I’m forcing myself to do more of that!

What is one of your favourite quotes?

You weren’t born to just pay bills and die.
